Geoportal - Access to Geoportal

The concept is a completely modern paradigm: it is planned as a distributed model -a dynamic set of geological map data served on a national basis by individual geological surveys to a web portal and as such will be frequently updated and improved by them and reflect the most up to date data they possess.

The geoportal is composed by two main components presented as distinct tabs: the discovery part (“search” tab) and the view and query part (“map viewer” tab).

The discovery part offers the following options:

- “Metadata catalogue”: a multilingual search engine request the 1G-E metadata catalogue using its CSW2.0.2 interface, then displays the list of results. An option displays more details (integrating the metadata catalogue).

- “Thematic maps”: a list of predefined set of datasets focused on the associated geographic area. It includes the test cases implemented by the WP9.

- “External layer (OGC)”: for the users that know a OGC WMS external url to test. This option presents the list of datasets implemented by the WMS, and allows to use them into the geoportal.

- “1G-E datasets”: this option presents the datasets implemented by the project at the European level (WP3).

The “Map Viewer” tab offers the usual options (zoom in, zoom out, drag/drop, management of the datasets displayed, view the scale ...).

For the WP3 1G-E datasets only, the option “thematic analysis” allows a first version of a query. It requires that the 1G-E data model is fully implemented by all the countries, and might also require others applied or topographical datasets.
