Work Package 10
WP10: Liaison with related groups and initiatives
Work Package 10 (WP10) aims to identify survey initiatives at cross-border and local level and to guarantee the exchange of information among partners.
In particular, it establishes connections to relevant initiatives linked to the project for collaboration between these and the One-Geology Europe work packages, such as INSPIRE, , EuroGeoGraphics, European umbrella organization for geographic information (EUROGI), Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), Common Gateway Interface (CGI), etc..
The WP works to create close working relationships between initiatives, projects and groups, to develop synergy and establish common aims and goals of these many initiatives. Moreover WP10 ensures that OneGeology-Europe uses and contributes to the applicable and latest standards and provides a substantial contribution to various initiatives.
The end result will be the mapping of different projects and the identification of improvement areas for future development for the participation of the OneGeology-Europe project in the EU and worldwide initiatives such as GIN, GEOSS, African European Georesources Observation System (AEGOS).
WP 10 is led by the British Geological Survey – BGS with the support of The Geological Survey of Spain IGME , Geological Survey of The Netherlands TNO and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven – KUL (Belgium).
Updates
(January 2010)
WP10 has continued its work ensuring strong liaison between 1G-E and the various EC projects, organisations and bodies. Particular discussions and meetings have been held recently with representatives from GEO, GMES, JRC/INSPIRE and ESDIN.
(September 2009)
- OneGeology-Europe and OneGeology were invited to present to the 9th Annual global meeting of the National Data Repositories group - responsible for national oil and gas data.
- 200 delegates from 27 countries were given a presentation in Delhi on OneGeology as a model for international data sharing and accessibility.
- A similar presentation was also requested by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) meeting in Amsterdam. SCAR are equally interested in learning about the success of the model being followed in Europe and globally.
- WP10 also supported enhanced contact between WP3 ‘Data Specifications’ team and the global GeoSciML Interoperability Working Group of IUGS-CGI.
